After getting some feedback from some of you at GDC 2010, I’ve decided it’s time for another update to iRPS.
One idea that I really liked (from a very nice someone at the Nord Party) involved allowing moves where the same pieces could play against each other (that is, scissors against scissors, rock against rock, etc.) . I was going to implement this when I did the first prototype but decided to leave it out since I was going for simplicity. So, since the game has such a small user-base, I thought I’d leave the question to be decided by you.
So, why is this a neat feature? Well, you might do this (eg. decide to try to use your paper to take the opponent’s paper) because you have no other good moves.
So, it would work like this: 1) you move your piece to your opponent’s of the same type. 2) a coin is tossed and depending on the outcome, you can take the opponents piece or you are taken. If you are taken, then the opponent’s piece actually leaves it’s position and takes yours leaving its blocker behind. It is then your move again. On the other hand, if you win you take the piece and leave your blocker behind as normal, and then it’s the opponent’s turn.
It is also possible to replace the coin toss with more of a role-playing game (RPG) concept where dice is involved and your chances are based on some strength attributes which could be based on consecutive wins, etc.
Well, please let me know if you like the idea, or what other types of improvements you’d like to see in the next version.
Thanks!!
